DIPLOMA PROJECT
CULTURAL CENTER EAST SIDE GALLERY
Berlin 2010
The project is a multifunctional complex for art experiments and self-exploration through arts. I tried to create an alternative urban space, an outdoor/indoor cultural center, landscaped in the city’s life.
Inspired by the existent paths created by the inhabitants, I conceived a structure which organically integrates them. The option of transforming the building’s waterside into an amphitheater provides the required versatility for a diverse range of activities.
The area I am referring to is a residual urban space, which used to be part of the Berlin Wall system. Therefore, a limiting “device” for the society becomes, now, simultaneously, a narrative of its history through art, and a research space for finding solutions through art regarding the questions the society is confronted with.
